My girlfriend had to take her car to get repaired after a deer decided she did not need a driver’s side mirror anymore. The shop is holding the car overnight so she was provided with a rental car. A Prius, to be exact. She was not happy about it.
As she pulled into the driveway, I tried to hold back the smirk that was inching across my face. As soon as the car comes to a stop, she rushes out of it like she is shedding off a set of sweaty, uncomfortable clothes.
Girlfriend: I FUCKING HATE THIS CAR.
ME: Well, um, besides the fact that its a Prius, what in particular do you hate about it?
GF: The braking. Oh my God. Its spongy one second, then it grabs super hard. There is no in-between. And it handles like a Grandma’s car.
ME: Okay, how does it accelerate?
GF: Bad. Like, it is sooo slow.
ME: What about from a stop? Doesn't the electric motor have some grunt when taking off from a complete stop?
GF: What? No. Its just slow. Everything about it is slow.
ME: So, um, I guess the most important question is did anyone downshift next to you?
GF: ... no they did not. Fuck you.
So there you go. The Toyota Prius is not angry girlfriend approved.

What does she drive?

HEV brake blending is a tricky thing, thats why the brakes are like they are. Good ones should simulate the pedal feel for the amount of braking Gs you are creating from the regen system. It sounds the prius fails at this.

I’m weird when it comes to cars; I want to do “the most” of whatever that car is supposed to do. If I’m in a truck, I try to fill and haul as much as possible. If I get a rental Prius, I try to get the best MPGs. In my Subaru, I try to avoid paved roads.
Prius isn't bad for doing what it's designed to do.

Her car is an Accord, which is not the sportiest thing in the world but it is a hell of a lot more sporty than a Prius. Hell, I enjoy driving the Accord. Prior to the Accord, she had a last gen Prelude. She sold it right before she met me. She misses it.

Nope, both were autos. She has always had a job in the city or close to it. I bug her all the time for not getting the Accord in a manual or in coupe form. Then again, I don’t want her commute either.

Meh, if it keeps her happy... anyways, what do you drive?

So...sports cars are not for you, then, eh? Because that would be jail time. :p

Pro tip, should anyone find themselves condemned to drive a Prius: there are three buttons on the center armrest, PWR, EV and ECO. I don’t have to tell you which mode to drive in (though it should be said the PWR mode kind of defeats the purpose of the thing).

I feel as though I’m missing something here.

I always get SOOO mad when I pass a sports car on the highway when they're doing the speed limit. Like, dude, what's the point of the car if you're not going to use it???

My daily is a pickup truck, my project car is a ‘71 Mustang. And the ‘71 is very manual. You can get all the details about it at the end of this post I made.
Not long after my ‘67 burned up, I autocrossed a BMW M-Coupe with my uncle. This made me want a small, nimble car of my own very badly. From one Craigslist ad to another, it never panned out though. I almost bought an SW20 MR2 which was a strange but hilarious little misadventure in itself. I kind of want to write about it but there is already a lot of “my funny/ horrible Craigslist story” posts.

DO IT!
Anyways, looking into fixing my grandfather’s 1989 Mustang GT convertible... and autocrossing it!
Live rear axle and rear drum brakes... what could possibly go wrong?
